Two new stories available online

Haven’t updated this page in a while–two new stories are now available online!

Michigan Quarterly Review‘s spring issue includes my story, “We Can Practice Starts,” available online here.  This one’s about serial killers, impotent men, exes and annulments, and American expats in England.

Lilith Magazine has posted “Recounting,” my story from the Summer ’14 issue, here.  A list of men you will kiss in your life.

Glimmer Train Fiction Open- First Place

The Glimmer Train bulletin is out, so I can officially announce: my story “Even Angels Are Astonished” has won first place in the Glimmer Train Fiction Open.  The story will be published in Issue #93.  Linda and Susan–the Glimmer Train editors–have been incredibly warm and supportive, and I’m truly honored to be featured in their magazine!

In the meantime, I have an essay in the bulletin on the place for light in fiction, in which I reflect on feeling like a naive young girl in my early grad school experience.  Find it here.

Upcoming: Glimmer Train, Crazyhorse

Very happy to announce two upcoming story publications: Even Angels Are Astonished in Glimmer Train, and “The Laws that Divide the Day in Two in Crazyhorse.

I’ll have some more news, and an essay on the place for light in writing, out in the Glimmer Train bulletin March 1!

YDN Guest Column; Snow in Baghdad ongoing this week!

I have an alum guest column, “How to Talk About It,” in today’s Yale Daily News.  It’s my literary/romantic response to “We Don’t Talk About It,” the weekend’s YDN Magazine cover story, about socioeconomic class in Yale’s social/cultural life versus the admissions office.  Also in part a response to articles like this one or this one.

And don’t forget that “Snow in Baghdad” is on its 4th installment out of 5 at Five Chapters today!

This Week- Snow in Baghdad Serialized in Five Chapters

Be sure to check every day this week for my (long) short story, “Snow in Baghdad.”

“Snow in Baghdad” upcoming in Five Chapters

Very excited that my story, Snow in Baghdad,” will be published in serialized form in Five Chapters!  Mostly because Five Chapters has published some of my favorite contemporary writers–Maile Meloy, Elisa Albert, Aimee Bender, Jennifer Egan, Joyce Carol Oates.

Tin House Flash Friday

Check out for my short short story, Jonah and the Whale, out in Tin House online today!

Look out for “Jonah and the Whale” in the Tin House Open Bar, and “Origin Stories” in The Los Angeles Review, both out in October!
